Y&R: Sharon Married 3 Newmans & Kept the Name Like a Souvenir

Let’s talk about the longest-running name game in Genoa City. On Young & the Restless, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) has gone by Collins, Abbott & Rosales over the years. Somehow, she always lands back on Newman.

I have one question. Why does Sharon get to keep it when nobody else does?

Sharon Married All Three Newmans

Most women in Genoa City marry into the Newman family once & call it a day. Sharon collected the whole set.

First came Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), her high school sweetheart & the father of Noah & Faith. Then she married Nick’s half-brother, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). Then, because Genoa City has no rules, she married their father, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).

The Mustache himself. Let that sink in.

So when Sharon calls herself a Newman, the obvious follow-up is: which one?

Sharon Rosales Had a Short Shelf Life

On New Year’s Eve 2020, Sharon married Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso), a good guy with no Newman baggage at all. She took his name, too, & for a Newman-adjacent woman, that was a big deal.

Then Rey died in 2022, & Sharon kept the Rosales name for a while afterward. That felt right. She loved him, & it was a way to honor him.

Fast forward, & she quietly slid back to Newman. No wedding. No announcement. No explanation. One day Sharon Rosales was just Sharon Newman again, like the show hoped we wouldn’t notice.

We noticed.

Phyllis & Chelsea Didn’t Get That Deal

Compare that to the other women who married into the family.

Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) married Nick & went right back to Summers. Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) married Adam not once but twice. She was Chelsea Newman for years & still went back to Lawson. She got engaged to Nick twice too, & never made it down the aisle.

Neither one of them hung onto the name. Sharon got it back without marrying anybody.

She Kept the Address, Too

Here’s the part that really gets me. Sharon still has her own cottage on the Newman ranch. Victor’s land, Victor’s family, Sharon’s front porch.

Chelsea is back on the compound now, too, but it isn’t the same. She’s there because of Adam & Connor, & we all know how Chelsea & Adam tend to go. Sharon doesn’t need a Newman man to justify her zip code. She just lives there.

So Sharon kept the name AND the address. Phyllis & Chelsea didn’t get either one on their own.

My Theory: Sharon Is the Real Newman Matriarch in Waiting

Nikki is Mrs. Victor Newman. Victoria is the heir. Sharon? Sharon is the one Newman who never actually leaves. Every man in that family has married her, loved her, or needed her at some point.

Maybe the name isn’t the show forgetting. Maybe it’s the show telling us exactly who Sharon is. After three Newman husbands & decades on that ranch, the Young & the Restless writers might just think she earned it.

I’m not saying she’s wrong. I’m saying she’s the only one who got away with it.

Should Sharon still be a Newman, or should she have stayed a Rosales? It’s not my first day watching Y&R & it isn’t yours either. What’s your take?
