With Jamey Giddens & Dan O’Connor stepping in as Young & the Restless’s new head writers, it feels like the right moment to make a wishlist. Soaps love a good resurrection, & these two women deserve one more than most.
Sage Newman: Christian Newman NEEDS His Mom
Let’s start with the obvious one. Sage Newman (formerly played by Kelly Sullivan) has been on my mind lately since her original actress just landed a new soap role — proof she’s still very much working & very much available. But the real case for Sage is Christian. He’s Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) son on paper, Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) biologically, & that paternity thread keeps getting brought up over & over without ever really being dealt with. Bringing Sage back, even briefly, would give that storyline an actual emotional anchor instead of just a plot device everyone mentions & drops.
Oh, & Christian Newman could use an actual active parent. So, there’s that.
Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom): What Did She Ever Do to Josh Griffith?
Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) was presumed dead after being caught in the crossfire of Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) missed target, & it’s always felt like one of those deaths that exists to move a plot forward rather than actually end a character’s story. Seriously, what did Vail Bloom, who portrayed Heather Stevens, ever do to the current Head Writer of Y&R, Josh Griffith?
Heather Stevens was well on her way to being a legacy character on Young & the Restless. She is Detective Paul Williams’ only daughter, an attorney, intelligent, & insanely beautiful. Doug Davidson, who portrayed Paul Williams on Y&R for many years, has parted ways & that bridge may never be rebuilt, so why not keep his daughter on the canvas? Before Heather’s last return to Genoa City, she was living in Portugal with her & Daniel Romalotti’s (Michael Graziadei) daughter, Lucy Romalotti (Lily Brooks O’Briant).

Maybe Heather Stevens, played by Vail Bloom, needed to leave Genoa City on Y&R, but she didn’t need to be killed; she could have gone back to Portugal. After all, that’s where her father, Paul Williams, is now living.
New Writers, Do Your Worst
Genoa City runs on resurrections, & these two women have more unfinished narrative gas in the tank than half the current cast. Fingers crossed the new regime agrees. To top things off, both Sage’s & Heather’s funerals were OFF SCREEN. These 2 ladies would be TOO EASY to bring back to Genoa City on Y&R.
