Y&R Emmy Countdown #1: Everyone Needs an Aunt Traci
We made it. #1 in the Young & the Restless Daytime Emmy countdown was never up for debate. Traci Abbott, played by Beth Maitland, is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, & she is the heart of Genoa City.
Find Me One Fan Who Doesn’t Love Her
Go ahead. Try to find me one fan who would say one bad thing about Traci. You can’t. I’ve been writing about Young & the Restless for years, & Traci is the one character nobody fights about.
She’s the sister who shows up, the aunt who listens & the friend who doesn’t need a scheme to matter. In a town full of takeovers, fake deaths & secret babies, she’s the one person you’d actually trust with your secrets.
Coffee, Tea or Wine? Whatever She Wants
Every Y&R fan would line up to sit down with Traci. Coffee, tea, or a glass of wine, she picks & we’re buying. Just look at her in that flapper outfit & headband. She’s having the time of her life, & honestly, so are we.

44 Years & One Emmy (So Far)
Maitland first showed up as Traci on June 17, 1982. That’s 44 years of Genoa City. Her one Daytime Emmy win came in 1985, more than 40 years ago. That’s way too long between trophies for the woman who holds this whole Abbott family together.
Her competition: Linsey Godfrey (Sarah, Days of Our Lives), Amanda Setton (Brook Lynn, General Hospital) & Trisha Mann-Grant (Leslie, Beyond the Gates). She’s also up against our own #6, Mariah Copeland, played by Camryn Grimes. Mariah is great, but this one belongs to Traci.
My Pick? Was There Ever Any Doubt?
I said from day one that Traci had to be #1, & nothing has changed my mind. Mean gets nominated. Messy gets nominated. Every once in a while, kind deserves to win too.
Tomorrow: my final picks for every Y&R nominee before Friday night.
Does Traci finally get Emmy #2, or does someone else steal Aunt Traci’s moment? It’s not my first day watching Y&R & it isn’t yours either. What’s your take?
