Y&R Question: Did Sharon Newman Lose Cassidy 1st?

Sharon Newman has two businesses in Genoa City… One NOBODY works at, one that never seems to close, & somehow Y&R writers think fans aren’t paying attention.

It’s not my 1st day watching Sharon Newman operate in Genoa City & something is very, very off.

Crimson Lights: Genoa City’s Coffee House Slash Late Night Bar

Let’s start with the obvious. Crimson Lights is supposed to be a coffeehouse. A normal, reasonable coffee house where people get their morning caffeine & maybe a muffin.

That is not what Crimson Lights is in Genoa City.

In Genoa City, residents finish a full evening of drama, scheming, & questionable life choices & then somehow end up at Crimson Lights. At night. For coffee.

Nobody goes to Caribou Coffee or Starbucks like this. Nobody. You do not wrap up a dramatic confrontation with your ex-husband’s new girlfriend at 10 PM & think “you know what I need right now? A latte.” But in Genoa City, that is exactly what happens… Every. Single. Time.

Crimson Lights is open at all hours, always staffed, & apparently the only establishment in town where residents feel comfortable processing their emotions over a cup of coffee on either side of midnight.

Esther: Filling In, Annoying, & Giving Away Free Coffee

Enter Esther Valentine (Kate Linder).

When Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) got busy with her new business venture, Crimson Lights needed coverage. & somehow Esther ended up filling shifts there.

Now look, some Y&R fans have a soft spot for Esther. That’s their right, but let’s be honest, Esther popping up at Crimson Lights, making coffee & inserting herself into everyone’s business is exactly the kind of thing that makes fans reach for the fast forward button, except for when Hot Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) stops by for another free latte.

Cassidy First: The Company Nobody Works At

FLASHBACK… Sharon ended up with Cameron’s company, Cassidy First. A real, functioning business that Sharon Newman was going to run like the capable, intelligent woman she is, & for a minute it actually seemed like Y&R was going somewhere interesting with this. Sharon had a purpose beyond Crimson Lights.

She even had an employee — her daughter, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) came on board at Cassidy First, giving the company exactly two people with a stake in making it work.

Two. Sharon & Mariah. That was the entire staff of Cassidy First, as far as what Y&R fans were told.

Then Mariah’s personal life imploded. The drama, the therapy, the ongoing chaos that is Mariah Copeland’s life in Genoa City took her completely out of the Cassidy First picture.  This left Sharon as the sole employee of a company she inherited from a man she killed. Running it alone. While also apparently working shifts at Crimson Lights.

The Bottom Line: Sharon Newman Deserves Better

Here’s what Y&R fans are left with:

Sharon Newman has a coffeehouse that doubles as Genoa City’s midnight emotional support center. She has a ghost company that nobody works at & nobody mentions. Her only Cassidy First employee is in therapy, & Esther is giving away free coffee to Hot Holden on Sharon’s dime.

This is not a business empire. This is a hot mess as hot as the coffee served up at Crimson Lights.

Sharon Newman is one of Y&R’s most resilient, capable characters & she deserves storylines that actually go somewhere. Not companies that disappear without explanation & coffee houses that operate outside normal business hours.

Y&R fans want answers. What happened to Cassidy First? Is Mariah ever coming back to work? Also, can someone please explain why Crimson Lights is open at midnight?
