Y&R FAN RANT: Kyle Abbott Forgot He Has a Son & His Name is HARRISON

Kyle Abbott is doing something rare on Young & the Restless. He’s actually being WAY less annoying & dumb!

He’s spending time with his mother, Diane Jenkins, gently nudging her back toward his Jack Abbott while keeping his father’s hopes alive without pushing too hard. For Kyle Abbott, this is practically a masterclass in emotional intelligence.

So why hasn’t he thought to use his most powerful weapon?  Has Kyle forgotten about his only son?… Harrison, the little boy who probably misses his “Grandma DeeDee.”

Kyle Abbott’s Best Move is Apparently Off the Table

Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) walked out of the Abbott Estate after walking in on her husband, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) & Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) in bed on that yacht on Lake Michigan. Now she is living at the GCAC & needs time to process seeing what she, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), & Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) saw.

Everyone in Genoa City wants Jack & Diane back together, everyone except Diane.  Kyle is politely playing both sides. Jack is waiting, & the Abbott Estate is one grandmother short.  Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsel) has not been mentioned or seen in weeks.

Where Exactly is Harrison?

This is the question Y&R fans have been asking & nobody in Genoa City seems concerned about answering… Where IS Harrison?

Is he with Mrs. Martinez, the imaginary housekeeper who runs the Abbott Estate’s childcare operation off-screen & almost never takes a day off?  Perhaps little Harrison is with Christian Newman.  Young & the Restless fans haven’t seen Christian in years, but apparently, he continues to do well in an undisclosed location.

However, most likely, somewhere in the Abbott Estate, there is a little boy who loves his Grandma DeeDee & nobody has thought to put him in a car & drive him to the GCAC.  Kyle Abbott, who is surprisingly playing this situation well for once, has somehow missed the most obvious move in soap opera history… A sad little Harrison asking for his grandmother would have Diane Jenkins packed & back at the Abbott Estate before the end of the episode.

Does Diane Miss Harrison?

This is the other side of this equation that Y&R fans cannot ignore.  Diane Jenkins fought hard to be back in Genoa City. She fought hard to be part of Kyle’s life & Harrison’s life. Grandma DeeDee is not a role she took lightly.

So why hasn’t she asked about him? Why has she only shown up at the Abbott Estate to pick up more of her things, but not to spend any time with Harrison?

Harrison hasn’t been seen in weeks & it seems none of the Abbotts care.

Tara Locke is Watching All of This

Here’s a thought, Y&R fans…  Harrison’s biological mother, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner), has been MIA since her arrest at the Abbott Estate. Last seen being escorted out in handcuffs, Tara has been conveniently forgotten by everyone in Genoa City, including the writers.

If Harrison is being raised by imaginary caregivers while his father forgets he exists & his step-grandmother is too busy processing her feelings at the GCAC, maybe it’s time for Tara Locke to finally come back for her son.

At this point, she has a case.  It’s time for Tara Locke to return to Genoa City for her son & to stir the town pot that she hasn’t finished stirring.

The Bottom Line on Y&R

Kyle Abbott is being less annoying than usual & that is genuinely worth acknowledging. Rare. Truly rare.

Yet, somewhere between his thoughtful conversations with Diane & his careful management of Jack’s expectations, he forgot that Harrison Abbott exists & that a little boy asking for his DeeDee is the most powerful tool in his arsenal.

Use your son, Kyle. It’s not my first day watching Y&R & it isn’t yours either. What’s your take?
