Michael Scott Paper Company on The Office | Broke & Bought

Because of you, Charles Miner (Idris Elba), The Office fans were blessed with the Michael Scott Paper Company.

Charles Minor on The Office

Technically, David Wallace (Andy Buckley) hired you, but you still didn’t need to be a total dick. Oh well… “The Rundown” of best of being broke on The Office, the Michael Scott Paper Company…

…& it’s Not My 1st Day watching The Office…

Pam Beesley Joins Michael Scott Paper Company at Inception

Of all of the Dunder Mifflin employees on The Office, Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) decides to join Michael Scott Paper Company at inception.

She wasn’t pursued by Michael Scott (Steve Carell), nor had a sales background, but she did get frustrated implementing a new giant copier for Dunder Mifflin.

Apparently, the copier was the last straw.

Do any other fans of The Office find it strange that Pam didn’t talk about this new job opportunity with Jim Halpert (John Krasinski), her new serious boyfriend that she lives with & works with?

When Michael Scott asked Jim to join Michael Scott Paper Company, Jim gave him a hard no. Even pain-in-the-ass Andy Bernard didn’t go.

Day 1: Assemble a Dream Team & Meet with Potential Investors

Only in Michael Scott’s dreams, Michael Scott’s Dream Team would be made up of…

  • Previously loyal Receptionist at Dunder Mifflin, Pam Beesley.
  • Vikram, the lead salesman at the telemarketing company Michael worked at while trying to avoid actually declaring bankruptcy.
  • Ryan the Temp/Ex-Dunder Mifflin Corporate Employee/Now Ex-Bowling Alley Employee.

Unfortunately, the Dream Team as it was initially assembled barely last a day after meeting with the first (only) round of potential investors.

The Michael Scott Paper Company Dream Team on The Office

Sure… the potential investors resided inside a nursing home. Perhaps it was more of an assisted living facility. After all, certain residents (including Michael Scott’s Grandmother) had formed an investing club. Also, they had very good questions for Michael & the Dream Team… “What is your mission statement?” “How do you suppose to make it in this economy?”

After the Michael Scott Paper Company had been declined funding by the elderly investment group, they departed. Their travels took them back to the telemarketing building, per Vikram, as he agreed with the investment’s questions (& doubts brought up by MeMa). He asked to be dropped up & since then we’ve never heard from Vikram again…

The Ribbon Cutting: Surviving Dream Team Members Share Space in a Small Space

After Michael was notified via USPS from his condo association that doing business at home is not permitted, Michael had to pull something out of somewhere… It was small but it did the job (That’s what she said).

The Ribbon Cutting at Michael Scott Paper Company

Not-so-conveniently… Or, was their new office space actually SO conveniently located in the same office park as Dunder Mifflin (& Vance Refrigeration, owned & operated by Bob Vance)?

While Michael, Pam, & Ryan Howard (BJ Novak) had to work in close quarters, The Office fans were entertained by ongoing run-ins with Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) & Charles Miner. It also didn’t hurt that Pam’s serious boyfriend wasn’t far away.

(Attempting to) Hire a Delivery Guy | Crunching the Numbers on The Office

After the variety of run-ins with Dwight & Charles Miner & Michael Scott Paper Company keeping their prices super-low, they pick up some traction & things seem to be going well. Pam made her first sale after they hosted their pancake breakfast. Their free delivery offering brought in additional new accounts which motivated Michael Scott Paper Company to acquire a van most likely previously owned by a local church.

After getting up morning after morning making deliveries, an idea was voiced. What if we can hire a delivery guy?…

Off to the accountant they go…

The accountant tells them they’re broke, after providing a quick Economics 101 review. This doesn’t go over well. They ask the accountant to crunch the numbers.

The accountant crunches. Nothing changes. Michael Scott Company is (almost) broke.

Broke with Confessions | Bonding Time with Michael, Pam, & Ryan

The Dream Team on The Office feels defeated.

They sit on the floor together & admit truths. No, Ryan the former temp never went to Thailand. Pam can’t even get an interview at Old Navy to land a 2nd job to help fund her wedding, but Michael Scott (always) has hope.

But… perhaps the Dream Team found themselves in the right place at the right time?

David Wallace Rescues Dunder Mifflin, & Michael Scott Paper Company

David Wallace makes an impromptu visit to Dunder Mifflin to let the office know that everything will be okay despite Michael Scott Paper Company capturing a number of their clients.

He then calls a closed-door meeting with Charles Miner & asks that Jim Halpert be included. Charles speaks up indicating that Dwight has been his go-to & he should be prioritized.

Both Dwight & Jim are invited in. Dwight makes an ass of himself attempting to use his knowledge of owning & operating Schute Farms rather than his experience selling paper & negotiating business in a business setting.

David Wallace & Jim Halpert on The Office

It all comes down to Wallace proposing a buy-out & all parties (except Dwight) agreeing that Jim is the best person to check with Michael Scott Paper Company to see if they even would be open to entertaining a buy-out.

Michael Scott Paper Company, The Right Building at the Right Time

Conveniently, the Dunder Mifflin & Michael Scott Paper Company offices are in the same building so Jim was able to make a quick run to see if a buy-out would be an option. Since they are almost broke, they manage to keep their mouths shut just enough to make it upstairs to negotiate.

Negotiations between David Wallace & Michael Scott are fast & furious. Wallace opens with a lowball offer of $12,000. Michael Scott will not have it.

Then David Wallace offers $60,000 with the board’s approval without actually getting the board’s approval. Michael was so close to taking it but did not.

The Dream Team requested a few moments alone with Michael to discuss.

Michael Scott Paper Company comes back in hot (That’s what she said.). Michael demands all of their jobs back including both Ryan & Pam to be in sales, full benefits, & Charles Miner has to go.

David Wallace’s mind is blown. Salaries, benefits, the liability of bringing back ex-temp/ex-corporate employee Ryan, & getting rid of Charles Miner is a huge ask.

Michael Scott raises David Wallace all of the other potential paper company names he has & assures him he will not go away. Somehow, without the Dunder Mifflin Board’s approval, Wallace agrees.

David Wallace & Michael Scott shake hands. Deal done…

Michael Scott is Back, Branch Manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton

Michael Scott is Back as Branch Manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton

Michael Scott Paper Company is arguably the best story arc during the tenure of The Office. The way Michael Scott branched out on his own, formed an unlikely dream team, & negotiated hard for the best of his spin-off company, was SO Michael Scott…
