Y&R Emmy Countdown #3: Victor Newman Wins on Seniority Alone
We’re down to the top 3 in the Young & the Restless Daytime Emmy countdown, & #3 is The Mustache himself. Victor Newman, played by Eric Braeden, is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
My prediction? He wins this one on seniority alone. Is that fair? Probably not. Do I care? Not even a little.
Is That Guy Still on That Show?
Whenever I tell someone I write about Young & the Restless, I get the same #1 question every single time: “Is that Victor Newman still on that show?”
Yes. Yes, he is. He even wrote a whole memoir about it.
People are shocked every time. Braeden first rolled into Genoa City on Feb. 8, 1980. That’s 46 years of threats, takeovers & storming out of rooms. He’s in his mid-80s now, & at this point the man basically is Y&R.
Mean, Grumpy & Often Unlikable
Let’s be honest. For the last couple of years, The Mustache has been just plain mean. Often unlikable. He keeps beating the same dead horses, handing out nicknames to the Abbotts & treating his own family like a hostile takeover.
Just look at him in this photo. Purple sweater, hands folded, a bottle of wine on the table, smirking like he already knows how Friday night ends. That’s not a man who’s nervous about an Emmy. That’s a man who thinks the Emmy should be nervous about him.
Does mean & unlikable win awards? In soaps, that’s half the job.

Victor vs. His Own Lawyer
Here’s the fun part. Also in this category is our #9 nominee, Michael Baldwin, played by Christian LeBlanc. That’s the guy who has spent decades cleaning up Victor’s messes. Rounding out the category are Steve Burton (Jason, General Hospital), plus Scott Clifton (Liam) & Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) from The Bold & the Beautiful.
If Michael wins, I fully expect Victor to buy the Hollywood Palladium by Saturday morning.
If Fan Loyalty Counts, It’s Over
Braeden’s only Daytime Emmy win was way back in 1998. Nearly 30 years later, it’s his time. Fans have stuck with this man through countless wives, enemies & feuds, & they still ask about him by name.
If fan loyalty were a criteria, this guy wins hands down. Honestly? He should.
Tomorrow, #2: Phyllis Summers, played by Michelle Stafford, up for Lead Actress.
Does Victor take home the Emmy on seniority, or does someone steal it out from under him? It’s not my first day watching Y&R & it isn’t yours either. What’s your take?
