Ashland in Genoa City… Yet another Throwback Thursday on Y&R is upon us. This week, Victoria & Ashland’s Wedding of the Century, Newman-Locke, & Ashland’s final demise.
Ashland in Genoa City, Victoria Newman Meets Her Match on Y&R
Personally & professionally, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) finally met her match when she met Ashland Locke (at the time, Richard Burgi). Now Ashland Locke (at the time, Robert Newman) is dead.
Even Y&R fans were hoping Victoria Newman had finally met her match. Sure, Ashland was a little bit older, but their minds met at one another’s level & they did look good together.
While Richard Burgi played the role of Ashland on Y&R, Newman Enterprises merged with his company & he merged personally with Victoria.
Shortly after Newman-Locke was made one, Victoria & Ashland were made one in The Wedding of the Century in Tuscany at the Newman Palazzo.
There were skeptics, including Victoria’s brother Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) & her ex-husband Billy Abbott (Jason Thompon). On the flip-flop, Victoria’s other brother Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) & their father Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) happened to be getting along at the time.
Victor & Adam did everything in their power to ensure Victoria & Ashland’s wedding went off without a hitch.
Throwback Thursday on Y&R, Richard Burgi is Out but Not Dead
Despite Ashland’s cancer diagnosis, which later on turned out to be fake, was not the reason Richard Burgi was ousted from The Y&R.
Richard Burgi’s exit from The Young & the Restless was because of COVID confusion.
Yes, the Locke family including Ashland, his wife at the time Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner), & their son they had been raising arrived in GC. They arrived & knocked almost everyone already settled in Genoa City on their asses.
Besides the Newman-Locke merger, it was revealed that Ashland’s wife at the time once had an affair with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). It was then revealed that Kyle might be Harrison’s biological father & not so much Ashland.
After another classic paternity test on The Young & the Restless, it was revealed that Kyle is in fact Harrison’s biological father.
Not long before Richard Burgi gets shipped out of Y&R, Tara Locke gets arrested on the show. Then Ashland’s BS cancer diagnosis makes it make sense for Kyle to step in as dad to Harrison.
Robert Newman Bounces Back to CBS as Ashland Locke 2.0 on Y&R
Even considering Robert Newman’s experience on Guiding Light on CBS, Richard Burgi left big shoes to fill as Ashland.
Ashland Locke 2.0 was slow to catch on, but after he saved Victoria from her burning car that involved him & Rey Rosales, their connection was obvious.
Finally, Y&R fans were able to buy in that Ashland now played by Robert Newman was passionate & in love with Victoria.
Then his fake cancer diagnosis & treatment had to be revealed & that was the last straw for Victoria.
Ashland 2.0 became obsessed with Victoria & would not stop to try to retain her on whatever level he could. His efforts finally resulted in his untimely death sponsored by a punch by Victoria’s brother Nick.
Y&R fans, do you really think Ashland Locke is dead? No one (Tara Locke or anyone else) claimed his body & there wasn’t any type of service. Whatever happened to Jesse Gaines (Jameson Jones)? What if he was involved somehow? Maybe Ashland isn’t really dead & Jesse has him in hiding.
