MIA: The Wisconsin Dells Billboards & In-ground Inner Tube Rides
While I haven’t been near as loyal vacationing in the Dells since I was a kiddo going on many family adventures…
Since then passing through I-90 between La Crosse, WI & the Wisconsin Dells area, the billboards that added anticipation to each trip as a kid are pretty much gone.
Back When I Was a Kid…
Back when I was a kid, there were many billboards beginning just after the La Crosse area. Noah’s Ark, Family Land, Riverview Park & Waterworld, The Tommy Bartlett Show, the boats, the Original WI Ducks, & on and on…

Left and right the whole way to Exit 87 there were billboards both right & left almost the whole way there.
To entertain me during many trips to the Dells area, I began documenting each attraction that had a billboard and would tally along the way how many each one had.
As we would roll up to the WI Dells area (next 4 exits), the billboards were placed more and more frequently.
My dorky documentation of said billboards would become especially intense along with my anticipation of our upcoming Wisconsin Dells adventure.
Wisconsin Dells Billboards: MIA
A couple of years ago I had a destination beyond the Dells. Prior to my trip, I was looking forward to checking out all of the updates I was sure I would find these billboards along the way between La Crosse & Wisconsin Dells.
Turns out the update was that all but a few billboards had been taken down.
There were just two as I got super close & ready to exit to The Dells.
The first one as you head out of the La Crosse area is still there, however. This is the one with the classic WI Dells logo that’s in someone’s yard.
In-Ground Inner Tube Rides in Wisconsin Dells: MIA
Along with the billboards, the awesome in-ground inner tube rides are also MIA.
There once was a time when in-ground tube slides were all the rage in Wisconsin Dells.
For all you seasoned Waterpark Capital of the World travelers, may I remind you of both the inner tube ride that was at the now-extinct Riverview Park & Waterworld & the infamous Thunder Rapids @ Noah’s Ark.
Noah’s Ark is still open & I will say that even though the Thunder Rapids was freaking awesome, they did replace it with another super-fun slide.
Enter… the Black Anaconda water slide/roller coaster.
This ride is super fun & is one of my updated favorites at Noah’s Ark.
But still… couldn’t they have kept Thunder Rapids & put Black Anaconda someplace else?
