Monday morning Y&R fans were left to wonder how Richard Burgi as Ashland Locke would leave The Young & the Restless. Would he die of cancer? Would he relocate to Milan to co-parent Harrison somehow with Summer & Kyle? Does Jesse Gaines &/or Tara Locke have a plan for Ashland elsewhere? Would Ashland somehow take Newman-Locke out of Genoa City & leave his wife Victoria with nothing personally & professionally?
Whoa!… Wednesday… We learn the role of Ashland Locke has been recast… Because of apparent COVID confusion…
This week’s Weekly #WTF on Y&R…
Ashland Locke, his previous wife Tara Locke, & their presumed son Harrison Locke arrived last year a bit like the Tasmanian Devin on Bugs Bunny. They were hardly unnoticed & managed to weave themselves into the lives of anyone important or even sort of important in Genoa City.
Long story short for your review… It was revealed that Tara Locke & Kyle Abbott used to rendezvous when they both resided in New York. Tara was married to Ashland. Kyle was flying solo at the time & knocked up Tara without being notified…
Ashland & Tara Locke then break the world soap opera record for the quickest divorce possible. Ashland falls in love with Victoria & marries her in Tuscany. Tara gets arrested & relocated back to New York. Kyle follows Summer to Milan with Harrison for an insta-family.
The Wedding of the Century went on without a hitch, despite the efforts of Billy Boy Abbott & Jesse Gaines. Somehow brothers (the updated Hardy Boys?) Adam & Nick come to the rescue.
Victoria & Ashland are getting on well… At the office, at Society, at the Newman Ranch, wherever they go…
Oh, & it seems their trip to Peru for experimental cancer treatment for Ashland is working out. Aside from some occasional heavy breathing & having to sit (or lay) down for a breather, it hasn’t really seemed like Ashland’s cancer diagnosis has been serious & maybe not so much even true, to begin with.
Regardless, Victoria & Ashland seem happy & are pretty hot… Let’s just have them carry on. Let’s see what’s next. Oh, wait… Never mind…

Y&R fans were caught off guard early this week when Richard Burgi announced on his Instagram account that his time has come to an end on Y&R. By midweek we knew his departure from The Young & the Restless was COVID related.
Another long story short… No one knows anything affirmative that is going on with COVID. The CDC changes its guidelines as often as the average person changes underwear. States themselves change their guidelines like a revolving door. How is anyone even with the best of COVID intentions supposed to know what is actually going on & what mandates are in place when & how to adhere to them?
Richard Burgi got the COVID. He was quarantined for 5 days instead of the Y&R-mandated 10 days. He tested negative going back to work. Now he’s fired.
Instead of holding Richard Burgi accountable by anything less than firing him, the powers that be at Y&R Googled Newman & came up with Robert Newman who played Josh Lewis on Guiding Light a long, long, long time ago…
While Josh Lewis & Reva had their hay days in the ’80s (& the ’90s also?), Richard Burgi is not an actor that can simply be replaced, regardless.
Just like his ex-wife Tara & his kid that isn’t really his kid Harrison, they all came into Genoa City full-force & took over.
Robert Newman, you have BIG shoes to fill. It’s 2022. We challenge you to not be a square peg being inserted into a round hole.
Y&R fans are left to take in a new Chance, a new Noah, & a now new Ashland…
The previous Chance, Noah, & (current) Ashland were/are amazing.
